Privacy statement

This statement explains which personal data I process when you visit rtenkroode.com or contact me, why I do that, and what your rights are. I keep it short and specific: this site collects as little as possible.

What I process, and why
When you visit the site
The site is hosted by Netlify. To deliver pages and protect the site against abuse, Netlify’s servers process technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. I don’t use this data to identify you.
- Legal basis: legitimate interest (a working, secure website).
- Retention: according to Netlify’s standard log retention.
When you send a message through the contact form
I process your name, email address and message, to read and answer it.
- Legal basis: your request (steps you take before a possible agreement) and my legitimate interest in answering you.
- How it works: form submissions are received and stored by Netlify Forms, and a notification is sent to my email, which runs on Google Workspace.
- Retention: submissions are deleted from Netlify within 12 months. Email correspondence is kept as long as needed for our contact, and longer only where the law requires it (for example, tax rules for business correspondence).
Website statistics (only with your consent)
If you accept analytics cookies, I use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages and articles are read, and how visitors find the site. That helps me write content that’s actually useful.
- What’s collected: pseudonymous usage data, such as pages visited, approximate region, device type and how you arrived. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses.
- Settings: data sharing with Google, Google Signals and ad personalization are turned off. Data is kept for 14 months.
- Legal basis: your consent. Without it, Google Analytics is not loaded at all. You can change your choice at any time via “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.

What I don’t do
- No newsletter, no tracking for advertising, and no selling or renting of your data.
- No profiling or automated decision-making.
- No social media scripts: the share buttons are plain links. Only when you click one do you go to that platform, where its own privacy terms apply.
- Fonts are hosted on this site itself, so no data goes to a font provider.

I have data processing agreements with these parties where the law requires one.
Security
The site uses HTTPS throughout, and access to all accounts involved is protected with two-factor authentication.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive your data in a portable format. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
To use any of these rights, email info@rtenkroode.com. I’ll respond within one month.
If you believe I’m not handling your data correctly, please let me know first. You also have the right to file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (opens in new window).
Changes
If the site starts processing data differently, I’ll update this statement. The date at the top shows the latest version.
